ABOUT Us
A Great ECO lodge in the rainforest
Nestled in the heart of the majestic Talamanca Mountains, bordering Barbilla National Park, and the indigenous Cabecar territory lies our farm, Barbilla Rainforest Farm. We belong to the small community of Las Brisas de Pacuarito. Here, we have a cat, dogs, horses, as well as hens that provide us with our own eggs.
Forty percent of the farm is dedicated to cattle ranching, where we raise Brahman and Nelore cattle. We are using traditional techniques such as silvopastoral systems, rotational grazing, and improved herd management to minimize the environmental impact of cattle farming. Agriculture is combined with small-scale tourism, where visitors can discover the remaining 60% of the farm, a tropical rainforest left to regenerate.
For three generations, we've been committed to rainforest conservation in Costa Rica through a range of projects, including the establishment of reserves and advocating for the creation of a National Park. We have also worked on education issues, such as developing bilingual schoolbooks for the indigenous Cabécar people, as well as other local development projects related to infrastructure, municipal democracy, and female entrepreneurship. Actively involved in local development initiatives, we firmly believe in uplifting and supporting the community.
Our journey into tourism began with the opening of El Camino de Costa Rica, which passes through our village. We collaborated with our neighbors to create services for hikers, forming connections that support each other's entrepreneurial initiatives, ultimately leading to community-based tourism. At Barbilla Rainforest Lodge, we encourage purchasing from local vendors and collaborate to boost local entrepreneurship and community growth.
For our guests, we can offer tranquility and immersion in nature, but what distinguishes us even more is the authenticity, the unique experiences, the personalized service and the alternative of responsible travel. Responsible, good travel involves contributing to the well-being of local families during your visit. In turn, our neighbors will enrich your experience by sharing their customs, stories, and way of life. This way our farm is more than just a place to stay; it's an invitation to explore, leaving you with memories that last a lifetime.
